Norsonic

Starting with an order for a Perceived Noise Level calculator to the Anglo-French supersonic Concorde project in 1967, Norsonic has for 50 years used their technical expertise to develop sound instrumentation of high precision and quality. Combining advanced technology and user-friendliness, we have focused on the user and applications rather than on the complexity of the instrument.

Their first export success came in the early 70-ies with the legendary Nor811 Sound Insulation Analyser. By combining the sound level meter, the reverberation time calculator and the signal generator in one portable unit, Norsonic created a unique tool for the acoustic consultants. This product opened up the first export markets for Norsonic that later have been the primary markets for all their products. As competitive products came along in the early 80-ies, Norsonic took a new step forward with the world’s first true dual channel Nor823 Building Acoustic Analyser. Thereby we effectively defended their existing markets and opened up additional export markets. Instrumentation for building acoustics has later been of the primary sources for their successful business.

In the first part of the 80-ies, sound intensity measurements become very popular among acoustician’s. As one of the forefront suppliers in this new field, Norsonic offered the ultrasound Nor216 Sound Intensity Microphone together with the portable dual channel Nor830 Real-Time Analyser for this growing market. Thanks to these unique and innovative products, the export markets for Norsonic expanded to both North-America and Asia.

By the introduction of the Nor110 Sound Analyser in the late 80-ies, Norsonic entered into the Environmental Noise market. This step was followed up by the company’s first handheld sound level meter in the early 90-ies – the Nor116 Sound Level Meter.

During the last part of the 80-ies, the world learned to know the fantastic possibilities with PC’s. So, for Norsonic, the logical step was to build the PC together with the precision acoustical instrumentation. The world’s first combination of such was introduced in the first part of the 90-ies by the dual channel Nor840 Real-Time Analyser. And in the last part of the 90-ies, the smaller sister for environmental noise – the Nor121 Sound Analyser with true audio recording – was entering the market.

Shortly after the start of the new century, Norsonic introduced the small handheld Nor118 Sound Level Meter with real-time filters. This became the true working tool for all acoustic consultants, and was further improved in 2007 with additional features in their biggest success so far – the Nor140 Sound Analyser. And not to forget, among their success products for the past years the Nor848 Acoustic Camera with unique real-time power plays an important role.

Norsonic is additionally offering the unique Nor850 Multichannel real-time system for acoustical labs around the world. We have also introduced the next generation of handheld instruments – the Nor150 Sound Analyser – which use Smart Phone technology. It will be with these products that Norsonic will to continue its successful business.

All the above mentioned products have been designed in close relationship with the main clients and distributors in more than 40 countries throughout the world ensures contact with users and the development of products in parallel with the emerging needs for them. Based on their “all-in-one” philosophy, we develop complete solutions that can be compared to portable laboratories. By careful attention to the user’s requirements at the design stage, it has been possible to increase the complexity of the instrument yet preserve a user interface that is convenient and easy to understand.

Norsonic has always used approx. 20% of the turnover in research and development. A great portion of this amount is used to design new features in existing products. We are active member of the international standardization work to ensure that you as a Norsonic customer keep your products up to date for many years after your initial purchase.

Norsonic Calibration Laboratory (NCL) is an international accredited laboratory. Products producing absolute levels, such as acoustical calibrators, tapping machines and reference sound sources are supplied with accredited calibration certificates as a part of the delivery. This is unique, and not done by any other supplier.

Norsonic is proud to serve their customers and listen to their needs. It is by listening to our customers’ needs that keep Norsonic at the forefront of the world market for sound and vibration instrumentation. Our vision is to supply our customers with the most innovative sound instrumentation for the most accurate sound measurements for another 50 years!
