ATILS
ATILS firmware can be used to localize the impacts of mortars and artillery with high precision during target practicing exercises. ATILS also localizes Small Arms Firing positions. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) shows the locaons of both Point of Impacts (POI) and Point of Origins (POO) to all sorts of clients, e.g. the forward observers, the shoong units themselves and the safety tower
- The Acoustic Target Impact Localization System (ATILS) firmware provides real-time impact locations of mortars, artillery and rocket projectiles.
- The accuracy to be achieved can be reached by optimizing the number of sensor posts and their relative distance to the designated target coordinates.
- ATILS offers an all-weather impact localization capability, not requiring a line of sight.
- The ATILS system can provide direct feedback (on actual impact location and distance in relation to the intended impact location) to both the gunner and the forward observer.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
- Unattended
- All weather, day and night
- Requires no line of sight
- Short feedback cycles
- Target localization error less than 5 meters (CAT 1-2)
The ground-based CASTLE sensor posts are deployed around designated impact area. The acoustic signals generated by the projectile impacts propagate with the speed of sound towards the sensor posts, the local weather conditions affecting their time delay.
At each of the sensor posts, the signals are processed. The detection messages are sent to the command post.
The command post combines and processes these detection messages into impact locations in real time.
These time-stamped and geo-referenced locations are visualized in the command post C2 graphical user interface.
Statistical information on the impact locations can be obtained, for instance to assess the performance of individual shooting units
